Tell us about your business and the value it brings to your customers.
Green & Clean is a full-service property preservation company that specializes in servicing HOA’s, commercial buildings, and single-family homes. Our services include contract cleaning, project cleaning, landscape construction, installation, maintenance, and pool service and repair.
Over the last 10 years, we’ve continued to expand our offerings to be a one-stop service provider to our customers for all of their needs. Already in about 300 HOA’s, we expanded to include pools and landscape as our customers started asking us for it. Our management system has proven strong enough to allow us to expand our service lines without compromising quality.
Explain the culture of your organization. What’s it like working at your company?
The five of us strongly believe that our first commitment is to our employees. After that, our employees can effectively execute their responsibilities of taking care of our customers. We have grown our business on the top line, but we have also grown the benefits to our employees as well. In an industry that often promotes company profits at the expense of their workforce, we make sure our employees have company-sponsored health insurance, life insurance, and 401k matching. We embrace the idea of our employees making a living wage and have a wage increase plan in place to exceed that of Florida’s new wage laws with an accelerated schedule.
As our growth has demanded the creation of new management and support positions, Green & Clean has filled these positions from our own. We believe in employee development and opportunities for advancement for those who want it.
Explain your company’s competitive edge over other companies in your market. What makes you different?
First is our ISO 9001 certification. ISO 9001 Certification is a worldwide Quality Standard that requires the total involvement of every person in your business including top management.
We have built processes that enable us to be more responsive to customer needs. Our response times have been reduced well below that of our competitors.
Once a year, for approximately one week, we are audited against these processes by a World-wide Certification company that watches, documents, talks to top management, staff, and customers. They are making sure that what we say we’re doing on paper and what we’re actually doing matches up – are we “walking the talk.”
Describe some major challenges you’ve found in growing your business.
Short term, I think most can agree, the labor market is really difficult right now. But we’re not afraid to sacrifice a smaller bottom line to ensure we are taking care of the people we do have. We’re committed to offering all of our employees’ competitive benefits. The talent shortage is a challenge, but we continue to be committed to communicating better with our employees and providing the best training possible.
The long-term challenge continues to be how we adequately take care of our employees both through a living wage and benefits, therefore allowing our employees to take care of our customers by being able to add value. The bottom line is we must do all of this. In addition to adding value for our customers, we must still remain competitive.
What keeps you up at night as a business owner?
A few things keep me up at night. The ability to balance growth with profitability. Taking care of our employees. Servicing our customers so that we are still competitive with the marketplace, but also maintaining a partnership with our customers to determine a reasonable cost based on the value and expectations.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the next few years? Where do you see your business?
Our biggest goal is to continue to grow our existing lines of business. Eventually, when the time is right, we’ll be adding additional lines of complimentary services. Right now, we are building a new headquarters that will allow us to service additional areas of Southwest Florida and manage our current and future business.
What is your proudest moment as CEO?
My proudest moment is being where we are today and being selected as a GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch Honoree. It validates our efforts to grow, but at the same time, it validates the involvement of the whole team and our philosophy at Green & Clean.
Our employees see this recognition as validation that each employee can have a career at Green & Clean. This award is an achievement that they earned.
