X-lumin Corporation: Illuminating the Future of Secure, High-Speed Connectivity
X-lumin was born from a desire to transform global connectivity using groundbreaking optical laser communication systems. Founded in 2019 on Florida’s Space Coast, the company began with a clear mission: to develop cutting-edge, non-jammable wireless communication platforms products with fiber-like speeds.
The company’s origins lie in the expertise of CTO John Stryjewski, Phd, a pioneer in optical laser technologies with over 35 years of experience, and the leadership of CEO Diana LaTour, whose Silicon Valley background brought a focus on scaling innovative products. Together with Chief Growth Officer Zev Suissa, the team has propelled X-lumin from a promising concept to a transformative force in telecommunications.
“We realized that if we didn’t pursue this technology ourselves, the opportunity to solve critical connectivity challenges might be lost,” Zev shares.
Core Business Model and Unique Offering: Wireless Fiber for a Modern World
X-lumin’s optical laser communication technology provides unprecedented data transmission speeds ranging from 100 to multi-terabits per second, making it a powerful alternative to traditional fiber and great bandwidths than RF systems. By leveraging Free Space Optics (FSO), their systems are non-interceptable, non-jammable, and capable of operating in RF-denied zones. These features make the technology invaluable for secure and resilient data transfer in national security, space exploration, and urban infrastructure.
“Our technology offers the highest level of security while eliminating the costly and time-consuming process of laying fiber in urban environments,” Diana explains. Additionally, Zev highlights the versatility of X-lumin’s modular systems: “We’re addressing critical vulnerabilities in infrastructure with a secure, scalable solution.”
The Power of Collaboration
X-lumin thrives on the ingenuity and collaboration of its team. With a close-knit group of engineers and technicians, the company emphasizes innovation and partnerships, aligning with Made-in-America values. Diana highlights the importance of maintaining a supportive culture as the company scales: “We’re mindful about preserving the collaborative spirit that has been key to our success.”
Transparency and empowerment define X-lumin’s workplace. “We believe in giving our team the tools to push the boundaries of what’s possible,” Zev adds. This ethos ensures every team member feels valued and motivated to contribute to the company’s groundbreaking advancements.
A Culture of Care and Excellence
At the core of Watermelon Swim’s success is its commitment to people—both the families it serves and the team that brings its mission to life. With over 150 employees, Micha has created a workplace where instructors feel valued, motivated, and invested in the company’s future.
The Manager-in-Training Program, launched 12 years ago, has been instrumental in developing the next generation of leaders within the organization. Team members undergo leadership training, participate in workshops, and gain a deep understanding of the business. “We train them so well that they could go anywhere, but we treat them so well that they don’t want to,” Micha says.
This people-first approach extends to the classroom as well. Watermelon Swim instructors are rigorously trained in CPR, First Aid, Water Safety Instruction (WSI), and Lifeguard Training to provide the highest level of safety and care.
The result? A strong, positive culture that translates into an exceptional experience for families. Parents trust Watermelon Swim to teach lifesaving skills in a supportive, engaging environment—one where children thrive.
Overcoming Challenges: From Technological Barriers to Market Acceptance
X-lumin’s journey has been marked by challenges, including the global pandemic and the inherent difficulties of pioneering a novel technology. “COVID gave us time to refine our solutions, but the market’s readiness for this innovation has been slow to occur,” Diana admits. The company’s success in mitigating atmospheric turbulence, a long-standing obstacle for laser communications, has been a significant breakthrough.
To accelerate adoption, X-lumin is conducting pilot programs with major telecommunications providers. “The more people see what optical laser communication can do, the faster the adoption curve will be,” Zev explains.
Vision for Future
Looking ahead, X-lumin aims to lead the global transition to advanced wireless optical laser communication systems. With the advent of 5G and beyond, the demand for high-capacity, secure data transfer is rapidly increasing. “Our goal is to revolutionize how data is moved—faster, more securely, and without the need for fiber physical infrastructure,” Diana says.
The company is also setting its sights on space markets, with plans to provide communication solutions for lunar exploration and other off-world applications.
Community Involvement
X-lumin remains deeply rooted in Florida’s Space Coast, fostering partnerships with organizations like UCF and Space Florida to advance photonics research and nurture local talent. “By investing in local engineers and supporting industry growth, we’re helping to build a stronger ecosystem for innovation,” Diana notes.
What the GrowFL Award Means
For X-lumin, being named a GrowFL honoree is a significant milestone. “This recognition highlights the innovation coming out of Florida and validates the hard work of our entire team,” Zev shares. Diana adds, “It’s wonderful to have the outside world recognize the groundbreaking work we’re doing.”
Advice for Entrepreneurs
Zev’s advice for entrepreneurs reflects his experience: “Don’t create fictional barriers—the tools to build and grow are more accessible than ever.” Diana emphasizes the dedication required for success: “If you want to succeed, you have to be ready to live and breathe your business. It’s not easy, but the rewards are worth the journey.”
