AME International

AME International is a worldwide supplier of tire service tools, accessories, and shop equipment. Their product line offers a broad range of tire-changing tools and accessories including bead breakers, hydraulic rams and pumps, heavy-duty mining jacks, wheel chocks, super stacker cribbing, tire shop tools, abrasives, inflation and torque solutions, and tire truck accessories.

AME International has global warehousing facilities to better serve their distributor network worldwide and they currently distribute tools and equipment to all major markets worldwide, With a complete range of OTR tire and tire-related accessories and equipment, AME serves all aspects of wheel and tire service.

Was there a pivotal moment that led you to start your company?

I had worked in the industry and felt that I had to product knowledge, contacts, relationships, and work ethic to start my own business.

Tell us about your company culture.

We recognize that while work is important, that everyone who comes to work has some other purpose in life and we encourage and celebrate that.  Give us your all while here, but maintain a healthy work/life balance. 

What is AME’s competitive edge?

We are continually investing and reinvesting in our employees.  Many of our employees are experts in the use and application of the tools we produce.  They attend classes, do fieldwork, and work side by side regularly with the people who rely on the tools every day.  This level of dedication is not typically seen in our industry, where the work can be rigorous and unglamorous.

That’s the truth for sure!  I have been fortunate to have working relationships and friendships with several business owners and executives and I’m not shy about asking relevant questions about their successes – and their failures.  I joined a peer group of other business owners and executives in 2013 which has also proved invaluable.  While it is a monthly time commitment, it is beneficial time spent working on the business instead of working in the business.

In the next five years, we want to exceed the $50 million mark and should be looking to expand on our facility which we plan to break ground on later this year.  With each growth spurt, we have worked hard to become more operationally efficient to increase our revenue per employee.

In less than 20 years, we’ve created a brand that has worldwide recognition and acceptance in our industry and yet there is not one single moment that stands out, just several ‘micro-moments’ made up of customers giving feedback about how a product has made their job faster, safer or easier.

What does it mean to be selected as a GrowFL FLCTW Honoree?

It’s an incredible honor to be recognized among our peers and also a responsibility to continue to lead and perform at a high level.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank for getting you to where you are now?

Our employees are the key to our success – they are our number 1 asset.

What is your advice for aspiring or fellow business owners?

Attitude is everything – business ownership and management have lots of ups and downs – your integrity, how you treat people, and your outlook will make a huge difference in navigating those unexpected situations when they arise.  Despite the successes of the business, remain humble and remember that the customer doesn’t need you – you need the customer!
