President & Creative Director
Was there an “ah-ha” moment that led you to the company?
My entrepreneurial journey has been the antithesis of an “ah-hah” moment. From the very beginning, SwiftPaws has been a community-driven brand, and while our initial growth may have been slow and organic, we have had the luxury of being able to listen to our customers and rapidly adjust to their needs.
What’s your company culture like?
We love dogs. We love ALL pets, but even more specifically, we fully understand the incredible bond people have with their pets because we ARE those people ourselves. Because of this, it’s easy for us to take great care of our customers, and it’s easy for us to look out for each other.
Our lure coursing kits are unique in the market, and we hold the patent for these products, however I would say that our competitive edge is in our ability to listen to, and take care of, our customers. We take a transparent and honest approach to customer communication and customer service, and I believe our customers appreciate us for it.
The single biggest resource for me has been Groundswell Startups, the non-profit startup incubator that we headquarter out of in Melbourne, FL. The mentorship, support, and access to resources through Groundswell has been unparalleled.
Over the next 5 years SwiftPaws will be able to grow into a company that can sustain and self-fund growth as we expand our offerings and selling channels and markets. I hope to be able to continue to support the growth of the business with local resources, even as we start to scale beyond our current capabilities.
Do you have a proudest moment?
My proudest moment was the night we aired on Shark Tank, not necessarily for the achievement itself, but because we hosted a watch-party at Groundswell and filled the room with over 100 people who have all had a part in some way of bringing this business to life. The fact that I’m able to grow a business to the point of making it on Shark Tank, and that we continue to do all of our assembly and operations in my hometown in an incredible feeling.
What does it mean to be selected as an Honoree?
Being selected as a GrowFL FLCTW Honoree is a wonderful recognition, and a testament that it is possible to chase your dreams and accomplish your goals without having to sacrifice some of the things that you hold dear like utilizing local resources as much as possible, and keeping the bulk of manufacturing and assembly in the US.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank for getting you to where you are now?
There’s an endless list of people who I have to thank for getting to where I am now, some of that list includes everyone who has ever lent their time and energy to SwiftPaws, all of my investors who believe in me and what we’re building, every one of my mentors and advisors whose guidance and counsel I couldn’t live without, and each and every single one of our customers for sharing in our passion for enriching our pet’s lives.
What is your advice for aspiring or fellow business owners?
My advice would be to first make sure you’re doing something that you’re incredibly passionate about, and second to surround yourself with people that you can trust to share the ups and downs with because there will be plenty of both!
