Magazine, Jacksonville Business Journal and The Florida Trend.
Lifelong Entrepreneur Exits Corporate America to Return to His Roots
Each entrepreneur has their own inspiration that gives them that ah-ha moment. For Craig Mandeville, founder of Forcura, his revelation came from his wife.
“In 2012, I found inspiration for Forcura from my wife, Heather. She was working at a home health organization at the time,” he said.
“As part of her job, she had to onboard patients who were leaving hospital settings. She loved working with those in need, helping them get the right care at home. She hated the actual processes, though. The paperwork, bureaucracy and the inefficiencies.”
Mandeville’s mission was simple, make healthcare organizations more connected and more efficient.
“I started the company with the vision that healthcare and post-acute in particular should have the same level of productivity that other verticals enjoy,” he said.
Forcura is a healthcare technology company that helps healthcare organizations deliver better patient care, improve cash flow, and reduce administrative expenses through document workflow and secure communication solutions.
“Our customers use Forcura to eliminate wasteful time and resources spent on manual tasks, so they can spend more time doing what they do best: deliver compassionate patient care.
“We released our document workflow platform in 2014 which enables a more streamlined process for managing patient information. It has reduced document processing time by 60 percent and helped care providers gain instant insights for real-time decision-making,” Mandeville explained.
Since its inception, Forcura has added products and services based on market needs today and in the future. In 2016, they launched an innovative mobile care coordination app and a few years later in 2018 created an API allowing data to be moved between electronic health records.
“These enabled us to pursue our goal of becoming the standard communication platform for post-acute healthcare,” Mandeville said.
Becoming an entrepreneur is certainly no easy task, which motivated Mandeville even more to put his stamp on Jacksonville.
“It’s the entrepreneurial spirit that allows me to take calculated risks and the reason that I moved to Jacksonville to pursue my dream,” he said. I am passionate about Jacksonville and am committed to putting it on the map as a place where high-growth entrepreneurial technology companies can thrive.”
Mandeville’s dedication for Jacksonville is even apparent in the company culture he is passionate about cultivating.
“Forcura’s goal is to be the best tech company in Jacksonville,” he said. “It’s our open transparent nature that allows every employee to rally around our mission and vision and to feel connected to making a difference for others. You can witness this in the way the team interacts, the open office environment, and the large dashboards throughout the office displaying real-time key performance indicators.”
Keeping a Competitive Edge & Future Plans
For Forcura, their competitive edge over others in their market lies in their ability to move be a one-stop-shop, their exclusive focus on healthcare and their topnotch customer service.
“In essence, Forcura provides everything that an EHR, the core technology system for any healthcare provider, does not and makes the connectivity between these solutions seamless. Forcura’s competitors typically provide one- or two-point solutions to customers requiring multiple vendors, resulting in cumbersome workflows and delayed communication.”
“In the mobile communication space, we have an advantage over other organizations by offering an integrated mobile communication tool developed specifically for healthcare that includes all tools that a clinician will need to communicate with care teams and back-office administrative staff,” Mandeville said.
Forcura develops all of their products in-house, which allows them to build customized enhancements and offerings faster.
“Feedback from the market has told us that our in-house support team and partnership approach to Client Experience sets Forcura apart from others,” Mandeville said.
Looking toward the future, Mandeville hopes to continue expanding.
“Since we began, we have approximately doubled in revenue and headcount every year,” he said. “Due to above and beyond customer service, focused innovation and word-of-mouth marketing we expect to triple in growth in 2019.”
What it means to be a Florida Companies to Watch Honoree
Forcura was nominated for Florida Companies to Watch, an event that showcases and honors second stage companies in the area who have demonstrated impressive growth and innovation. For Mandeville, he is honored and proud of his company and team.
“I’m humbled that we have reached the point in Forcura’s growth where we are selected to be on a list promoting companies in Florida that are creating jobs and enriching communities,” he said. “As a high-growth technology company, I know that our culture is what is going to allow us to continue to move fast and beat the competition.”
“We hire the best and expect a lot out of our team and in turn, we are constantly evaluating our benefits and work/life balance program. This honor provides another gauge of how we are doing. I am extremely proud of this accomplishment.”
As for his team, Mandeville says this nomination is a mere reflection of the exact type of work culture they have cultivated.
“For our team, this award is an external acknowledgment that our internal culture is one of our biggest differentiators. You do your best work when you love what you are doing and know you are contributing to the overall success of the team,” he said.
Notable Philanthropic Involvement
Forcura is actively involved with local non-profit organizations such as Beaches Habitat, St. John’s Santa’s for Seniors, Shircliff Society, and Mission House. They also hold quarterly service events such as beach cleanups and building houses for those in need. They have created a scholarship at the University of North Florida and participate in a UNF Mentorship Program.
Advice for aspiring entrepreneurs
Get out of the office and spend time with your prospective customers, as they will be the assets in determining if your product and market align. Mandeville also encourages entrepreneurs to get a mentor and seek out and find individuals that have experience in areas that align with your goals. They can help guide and coach you to the next level of success.
