Orange County Family Owned Business on Track for Continued Growth

Tell us about your business. What value do you bring your customers?

ER Precision is a proud small business supplying defense and aerospace industries with high-precision optics and optical components. We’re also a certified HubZone business helping the local community with good-paying jobs and security within a great high-tech industry. We’ve had continued growth over the past 7 years and are seeing the same trend moving forward.

We supply raw material and have a lot of in-house capabilities to ensure on-time or even expedited deliveries. Having material on hand saves three to four weeks right from the start.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced when growing your business?

As we’ve grown ER Precision we’ve faced many challenges. One that comes to mind is difficulties and issues with outsourcing, things like delivery and quantity. We were able to overcome the challenge by bringing more things in-house, rather than outsourcing. We’ve increased our capabilities over the years which has allowed us to do this.

Are there any challenges you see coming down the road?

Being a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) supplier, the military budget is always a possible challenge for us.

What is the company culture at ER Precision like?

We’re a very diverse, small, family-owned business. Everyone wears multiple hats and takes on multiple responsibilities.

What’s your competitive edge over others in your market?

We’re a Small HubZone certified business so we’re able to help the local community with job placement and see some set-aside contract opportunities.

We’ve also been able to gain a competitive advantage over our competitors through our Crystal Growing and 5 axis CNC capabilities. We help the United States Government save millions on recycling material for new sighting systems with our proprietary process. We pride ourselves on great relationships with our customers and providing top-quality products.

What kind of benefits have you found as a business owner operating in Florida?

We moved to Apopka from Orlando in January 2020 after the purchase of our new facility. Of course, owning real estate has multiple benefits compared to being a tenant. It allows us to be more competitive in pricing, increase our growth and our ability to expand capabilities.

Another benefit that comes into play for our future growth plans is being close to the large Prime Military contractors like Lockheed Martin, DRS, SpaceX, and L3Harris.

As president and CEO, what were the three most pivotal moments for your company?

The first moment for us was when we received our ISO Quality certification in 2004. Then, in 2010, we moved into a larger facility and added CNC capabilities. Lastly, we recently purchased an even larger facility to expedite our growth.

How does your company give back to the community?

Being a HubZone company we are required to hire 1/3 of the employees from the area. It’s usually a lower-income area so we help the local community by offering good-paying jobs and security with careers and their future. Good pay and full benefits for full-time employees. We cover 100% of their health insurance and dental. We also offer PTO up to 2 full weeks (a total of 80 hours) for full-time employees.

What does it mean to you to be selected as an honoree this year?

It’s certainly an honor to be selected as a GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch Honoree this year, especially being among all the great companies out there in Florida.

What is your advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners is to never stop. If you have a vision, keep pushing.
