LT Plumbing: Dependability as a Competitive Advantage
The Moment That Pulled Him Back In
After retiring, Alex expected to enjoy a slower pace of life. That lasted about a year. What he quickly discovered was that stillness did not suit him. He missed the pace, the problem-solving, and the daily challenges that come with building something tangible.
Construction was the industry he knew best. So instead of staying on the sidelines, Alex made the decision to re-enter the game not as an employee, but as an owner. With little hesitation and a lot of conviction, he acquired a plumbing business and set out to rebuild it with his own standards and values guiding the way. The courage to do it came from instinct. There was no perfect plan, just blind faith, a clear gut feeling, and a willingness to move forward decisively.
Dependability as a Competitive Advantage
In construction, Alex believes dependability is everything. Every job involves dozens of stakeholders, tight schedules, and constant moving parts. When one trade misses a deadline, it ripples through the entire project. LT Plumbing differentiates itself by executing consistently and delivering exactly what it promises on time and with quality. That reliability has become the company’s calling card.
“You’ve got to be good at what you do,” Alex says. “And you must deliver when you say you will. That is what really matters.”
A Workforce Built for Growth
LT Plumbing operates with a predominantly W-2 workforce, offering stability, benefits, and long-term opportunity. Today, the company employs approximately 60 to 70 people, with plans to double its headcount over the next three to five years as construction demand continues to rise across Southwest Florida. Rather than relying heavily on subcontractors, Alex has focused on building a committed internal team of people who understand the company’s expectations and grow alongside the business.
Rapid Growth Through Execution and Opportunity
Since acquiring the business, LT Plumbing has experienced strong revenue momentum. In the first year, revenue increased by approximately 50 percent. The second year followed with another 50 percent gain. Within three years, the company had doubled in size. This past year was flatter than expected due to tariff-related uncertainty that caused lenders to delay projects while construction costs remained unclear. But those delays are easing. Looking ahead, Alex expects revenue to grow between 50 and 100 percent over the next three to five years as stalled projects resume, and new opportunities come online.
Investing in People to Solve the Labor Challenge
Labor availability remains one of the biggest challenges in Florida’s construction industry. To address it, LT Plumbing has taken a proactive approach: growing its own workforce from within. The company pays its apprentices to attend a four-year technical college program, sending them to school two nights a week. As apprentices complete each year of training, they earn incremental pay increases. By the end of the program, they emerge as fully trained plumbers with a clear career path and a strong incentive to stay. Alex sees this investment not only as a solution to labor shortages, but as a responsibility to the trade itself.
A Culture Built on Integrity and Adaptability
Culture at LT Plumbing is shaped by the realities of construction. Integrity and reliability are non-negotiable. Just as important is the ability to pivot. Every day presents new challenges with unexpected site conditions, schedule shifts, and supply issues. Thriving in construction means embracing problem-solving, not resisting it. Alex believes that the mindset must extend to leadership as well, bringing teams along through change rather than shielding them from it.
Staying Focused in a Competitive Industry
Alex likens construction competitions to golf: you are always competing against yourself. Other companies may approach projects differently, but success comes from staying in your lane, executing consistently, and honoring commitments. LT Plumbing does not chase shortcuts or trends. Its edge comes from focus, discipline, and repetition doing the fundamentals well, every time.
Why Florida Works
LT Plumbing’s presence in Florida was partly serendipity. When Alex decided to buy a business, he knew he did not want to operate in a cold-weather climate. His search led him to Palmetto, and the fit proved immediate. Florida’s business-friendly environment, compact geography, and explosive growth especially along the Gulf Coast have created an ideal setting for expansion. With development moving inland and cranes dotting the skyline, opportunity is everywhere.
Overcoming Industry Headwinds
Tariff uncertainty posed one of the most significant hurdles in recent years; freezing projects as lenders waited for cost clarity. That uncertainty has begun to lift, and bid activity is increasing across the region. Labor remains a longer-term challenge, particularly in a state with a transient population. LT Plumbing’s apprenticeship model is designed to address that reality by creating loyalty, skills, and long-term careers within the company.
What the GrowFL Recognition Means
Being named a GrowFL Florida Company to Watch came as a surprise to Alex but one that carried deep meaning. The recognition validates the hard work, commitment, and effort of the employees who fueled the company’s growth. For the team, the honor reinforces pride in what they have built together and affirms that their work is being noticed beyond job sites and project schedules. Alex believes the company was selected because of its strong revenue growth, more than doubled headcount in three years, and ongoing investment in employees.
Advice for Entrepreneurs
Alex’s advice is rooted in experience and reflection. If he could do it again, he would have started sooner. Trust your instincts. Commit fully. Accept that no two days will be the same. There will be wins and setbacks, but the journey, he says, is worth it.
