A Business Born from One Family’s Determination to Keep Their Loved One at Home

“Be persistent. Be consistent. And never compromise who you are. When you stay aligned with your values, you will always find your way.”
—Nercy Radcliffe, Founder & CEO, Providence Healthcare Services
A Business Born from One Family’s Determination to Keep Their Loved One at Home
Providence Healthcare Services began long before it officially launched. It began in a family living room, with relatives doing everything possible to keep Nercy Radcliffe’s grandparents at home during their final years. That experience opened her eyes to the gaps families face when navigating care and to the emotional strain of honoring someone’s wish to remain at home. Even after her grandfather ultimately required a rehabilitation facility, the desire to help others remain safely at home never left her.
Nercy’s heart for elder care goes back to childhood. In grade school she participated in programs that visited nursing homes, feeling a natural connection to older adults and a deep sense of compassion she did not yet fully understand. Years later, after leaving corporate America to spend five years raising her children, that familiar calling resurfaced louder and more focused than before.
The Courage to Launch. Fueled by Family
Starting a home health agency in Miami with a market crowded with competition and complicated by regulatory challenges was daunting. But Nercy did not take the leap alone. Her parents believed in her vision wholeheartedly and supported her financially so she could launch the company. That belief fueled her determination.
“There was no way I was going to lose their money,” she says. “I had to make it work.”
She leaned into the truth that home health, like many service industries, is built on trust. People want to work with those they genuinely know and like, and Providence grew because of that authenticity. Integrity became her strongest differentiator. Persistence became her path forward.
What Providence Does and Why Families Trust Them
Providence Healthcare Services provides a comprehensive continuum of home health services that support patients through recovery, illness, and long-term care needs. Skilled nursing and therapy teams care for patients transitioning home from hospitals, surgeries, and rehabilitation facilities. The organization delivers services to Medicare, Medicaid, managed care and commercial plan beneficiaries. For medically complex patients, including children, Providence deploys specialized clinical teams that often remain with the same families for years. Some patients have been under Providence’s care for as long as ten years, building deeply trusted relationships with the nurses who care for them.
Providence is committed to assisting families who desire to keep their loved ones at home, supporting individuals through their complete continuity of care needs. Whether helping someone regain independence or providing round-the-clock care for medically fragile individuals, Providence focuses on compassion, communication, and consistency, qualities that have earned the trust of health plans, physicians, hospitals, and thousands of families.
The Competitive Edge: Consistency, Clinical Longevity, and Unshakable Values
Providence Healthcare Services thrives in one of the most competitive healthcare markets in the country because its advantage is not size; it is reliability. The company’s clinical leadership team is remarkably stable: both the clinical director and the nurse practitioner who oversee Medicare, Medicaid, and pediatric cases have been with Providence for over sixteen years. This kind of longevity is rare in her market and gives Providence a depth of experience that competitors struggle to match. These leaders have seen industry trends come and go; they have remained because Providence lives its values, treats its people with respect, and fosters genuine mission alignment.
Providence also invests heavily in technology, staff development, and recognition. Because so many caregivers work in the field, Nercy is intentional about ensuring they feel connected, appreciated, and supported. She emphasizes “non-negotiables” – standards around communication, documentation, timeliness, and care quality that define Providence’s professionalism and reliability.
A Workforce as Diverse as the Needs They Serve
The Providence workforce mirrors the diversity and complexity of home health care itself. Medicare patients receive per-visit care from highly skilled clinicians, nurses and therapists who see different in-home patients each week. Some clinicians appreciate the flexibility to work per diem shifts, balancing home visits with hospital or rehab shifts. Patients with long-term medical needs are supported by teams of full-time nurses who may remain with the same individual for years, forming relationships that feel like extended family. Some patients requiring hourly or long-term care services will have caregivers assigned who provide companionship, support with activities for daily living, and hands-on personal care. These patients may need assistance a few hours a week, overnight, or a full day of care.
The company employs full-time staff, part-time staff, and per diem clinicians, adapting to the unique needs of each patient and family. Because of this diversity, Providence recruits continuously; maintaining the right balance between staff capacity and patient demand is a complex but essential part of the business.
Scaling with Intention: Investing in Leadership for the Next Chapter
Providence Healthcare Services has grown steadily for eighteen years, with the most rapid expansion occurring between 2022 and 2025. Nercy is preparing the organization for its next phase by focusing on leadership development and process optimizations.
In 2025, Nercy hired an experienced Director of Sales & Marketing to strengthen outreach and engagement. The next step will be bringing on an Integrator/Operations Manager under the EOS model, someone who can further streamline systems, elevate operational alignment, and free Nercy to focus on strategy, partnerships, and long-term vision.
This transition marks Providence’s shift from founder-driven growth to infrastructure-driven sustainability as an essential component for companies moving into second-stage success.
The Hardest Challenge: Competing With Giants in a Saturated Market
Miami’s home health landscape is dominated by national chains, hospital-owned or affiliated agencies, and health plan–backed organizations with immense resources. Smaller agencies are often squeezed out or overshadowed.
Providence has remained competitive by staying firmly grounded in ethics, compliance, and clinical excellence. As a two-term board member of the Home Care Association of Florida, Nercy has developed extensive expertise in state and federal regulations and is often called upon to clarify or interpret rules for colleagues and referral partners who feel overwhelmed by the complexities of home health care.
In an industry where shortcuts are common and pressure is high, Providence stands out simply by doing things the right way, every time.
Looking Ahead: AI, Policy Shifts, and Changing Family Dynamics
The home health industry is on the edge of significant transformation. Artificial intelligence will reshape workflows, documentation, and predictive care models. Providers who adopt AI early and responsibly will outpace those who resist.
Nercy is also watching a shift in how health plans support long-term care. More families are being encouraged to take on caregiving roles themselves, and get directly reimbursed by the health plans, which may reduce reliance on agency-provided care. Providence is planning ahead, exploring new service approaches, strengthening its differentiation, and ensuring its care remains indispensable regardless of policy changes.
Success, Redefined
For Nercy, success has never been measured in revenue alone. It is defined instead by a grounded purpose in fulfilling what she believes is her God-given responsibilities.
Success is a family who gets to keep their loved one at home. Success is the relief in a daughter’s voice when help arrives. Success is a patient recovering safely. Success is a caregiver gaining confidence and skill. Success is a team who works in unity, fulfilled, rewarded, and knowing they make a difference.
It is impact measured in human lives, not spreadsheets.
Why Being Honored by GrowFL Matters
Being named a GrowFL Company to Watch is meaningful to Nercy because it recognizes not just her, but the entire Providence team. To join that group is a powerful affirmation of the service, compassion, and excellence her team brings to South Florida every day.
She purchased a full table for the gala so her leadership team can celebrate alongside her because the award belongs to all of them.
Community Leadership Beyond the Business
Nercy’s commitment to service extends far beyond Providence. She is actively involved with organizations that are aligned with her values. She is a current member of the United Way Tocqueville Society and has served as a volunteer on the Health Impact Council; supports the American Red Cross, having served on its gala committee; supports the American Cancer Society, where she was named an Inner Circle of 12 honoree for 2026; contributes to Ronald McDonald House and is a founding member of the Red Shoe Society; and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Florida Virtual School by gubernatorial appointment.
