PVS Studios: Crafting the Visual Language of Commerce

A Career That Built a Vision

Before PVS Studios existed, before tens of thousands of products passed through their 18,000-square-foot facility each year, before the partnerships, the emergency Amazon launches, and the industry recognition there was one core truth: Troy Benscoter spent 23 years watching the natural and organic grocery industry move online, and he realized most brands were not ready.

He worked in distribution, operations, and executive leadership. He understood how buyers looked at products, how packaging influenced purchase decisions, and how supply chain and storytelling intersected. And as the e-commerce wave accelerated, he saw a widening gap between the visual assets brands had and the visual assets they needed. “I’d walk store floors and notice something obvious,” Troy said. “The brands with the most compelling packaging and the best presentation performed consistently better. When online shopping surged, that logic moved from the shelf to the screen. Most brands were behind.”

He could see the future coming. And he was not the only one. Troy and his business partner, Bruce Kern, launched two companies simultaneously in 2014 – The Data Council, a high-tech data and content company; and PVS Studios, created to produce the visual assets those data systems required .

The Data Council would later be acquired. PVS Studios became Troy’s full-time focus and his next entrepreneurial chapter.

Built During Hard Times, Success did not come overnight.

After the sale of The Data Council, Troy became severely ill, eventually spending a year recovering with lifelong side effects, including heat intolerance that necessitated him to leave Florida and live in the North Carolina mountains during the summer. At the same time, they had major corporate clients, ongoing data contracts, and a growing photography operation. “It was the hardest period of my life,” Troy said. “There was no option but to fight through it.”

Despite the challenges, the work didn’t slow. PVS Studios continued expanding because their clients needed them.

Brands were struggling with messy, inconsistent product representation and missing assets, often while facing pressure from retailers for enhanced visuals and the logistical hurdles of tight deadlines and limited product access. PVS Studios solved it. They built a framework around dependability, repeatability, and high-volume precision, something the industry still lacked. They created systems that could handle thousands of products at a time, or a single item; all photographed perfectly, all delivered in market-ready formats.

The early sacrifices built the foundation. The foundation built the company. And the company built a reputation.

A Company Engineered for Scale

Today, PVS Studios handles over 3,000 grocery items per month in just one part of their operation, supported by a massive infrastructure that includes multiple full-size photography bays, stylized set environments, and three large dock doors for freight. Their facility is designed for precision, featuring temperature-controlled product intake, a dedicated logistics wing for asset management, and specialized tooling for industrial products. This physical scale is matched by digital expertise in 3D and CGI capabilities alongside high-speed color correction and retouch teams, but the true engine of PVS Studios remains its meticulously refined process.

Every product is logged, tagged, checked in, photographed, quality-controlled, named based on strict conventions, and delivered in formats specific to manufacturers, industries, retailers, marketplaces such as Amazon and category-specific distributors. Retailers trust PVS because they remove the stress from the seller. Brands trust PVS because of the results. And sellers trust PVS because deadlines are sacred. “Our industry is built on urgency,” Troy said. “When Amazon tells a seller they have 48 hours to update a listing or lose rank, you do not miss it. You deliver.” One client shipped 1,100 products with a deadline requiring 7,500 images and 5,000+ infographics and lifestyles; and PVS Studios completed it under pressure and on schedule.

The Right People, The Right Way: PVS Studios does not hire photographers at first.

By utilizing a psychology-based assessment system to identify natural strengths, cognitive tendencies, and learning speeds, PVS Studios hires individuals who are perfectly suited for their specific roles. As Troy notes, assessing over 100 people has been a “massive differentiator,” allowing the company to strategically place team members based on whether they excel at technical tasks, thrive on repetition, or possess the meticulous eye needed for complex products. This scientific approach to hiring has resulted in extremely low turnover, higher consistency, faster training, and a team capable of scaling gracefully during peak seasons—all of which lead to superior client results. Their success has even blossomed into a partnership with a photography equipment manufacturer, where they help other studios apply this same hiring science to find top-tier talent.

Today, this robust methodology allows PVS Studios to support a diverse range of sectors, including Fishing, Sporting Goods, and Outdoors, as well as the Automotive and Industrial industries, where they handle everything from tiny components to massive items requiring a gantry crane. Their expertise also extends to high-volume CPG Grocery, precision-heavy Hardware catalogs, and Apparel, while providing the rapid turnaround times essential for Amazon Sellers. They have become a go-to provider for manufacturers because they understand an essential truth:

Some industries are catalog-driven; accuracy is everything. If a fishing lure is photographed incorrectly, or a small metal fastener is mislabeled, the customer will return it. PVS Studios prevents those mistakes and creates visual systems that match SKU repetition, naming conventions, and retailer expectations. This mastery of complex image systems is why they have been chosen for on-site national projects by companies like Shimano, Trane, and others who require in-facility photography.

A Model Built for Win-Win Partnerships: PVS Studios’ revenue is fueled by partnership ecosystems.

Industry insiders, reps, consultants, and wholesalers who introduce PVS to brands receive ongoing revenue share for the life of that client — a mutually beneficial model that keeps valuable industry experts aligned with them. And because PVS builds deep relationships, many partners shift all their visual work to the studio. “Everyone wins,” Troy said. “The partner gets recurring revenue, the client gets best-in-class support, and we get long-term relationships.”

Growth Through Service

PVS Studios has maintained a trajectory of steady and consistent growth, fueled by a commitment to continual investment in cutting-edge technology. This momentum is evidenced by several recent milestones, including a major expansion into industrial and automotive catalog sectors and a significant increase in on-site nationwide production work. By launching dedicated 3D/CGI divisions and fostering strategic partnerships across multiple industries, the company has achieved a remarkable 30% year-over-year growth and a rapid expansion into advanced visual content. What began as a simple belief that brands deserved better imagery has evolved into one of the most specialized and sophisticated visual content production operations in the country.

Looking Ahead: PVS Studios is scaling but carefully.

Troy knows the value of controlled, intelligent growth. The team is expanding national partnerships, broadening industrial capabilities, and deeper work in retail and manufacturing sectors. But at its core, the mission has not changed. Help clients sell more. Through better images, better systems, and better service. “We hear the same thing over and over from clients,” Troy said. ‘You guys are the first people who got it right.’

That is what drives PVS Studios, and what will continue driving it forward.
