Designing the Future: How Workscapes Built a Statewide Legacy of Innovation and Heart

Success in the commercial interiors industry is often measured by the square foot, but for the team at Workscapes, it is measured by the strength of the cultures they help create. For nearly three decades, Workscapes has grown from a small, family-run business into one of Floridaโ€™s most trusted woman-owned commercial interiors partners, serving organizations that seek high-performing, adaptable environments. Today, the companyโ€™s growth reflects a simple truth: when you prioritize people over products, sustained and intentional growth follows.

The Workscapes story began in 1998, founded by Elizabeth Dvorak alongside her husband and business partner, Dick Dvorak, who serves as President, with a shared vision to serve Floridaโ€™s rapidly growing market through thoughtful commercial environments. The early years were marked by rapid growth. In just its second year, the company experienced more than tenfold revenue growth, requiring leadership to evolve operations quickly while staying grounded in strong relationships and service excellence. By 2001, just months before September 11, Workscapes expanded into South Florida, supporting a growing client base during a time of significant uncertainty. As the business matured, growth naturally leveled as leadership evaluated the companyโ€™s next chapter by 2012.

That chapter came into focus through a deliberate decision to scale statewide. Beginning in 2012, Workscapes entered more than 18 months of negotiations to transition from a Knoll dealer to a Herman Miller dealer, acquiring major distribution operations across Florida. This move expanded the companyโ€™s presence into Jacksonville, Fort Myers, and Tampa and nearly doubled its size and revenue. Final negotiations took place during a deeply personal moment for the company, as Elizabeth balanced the demands of the acquisition while supporting her son Will through a serious health challenge. In March 2013, Workscapes officially announced the expansion, marking one of the most defining moments in its history and establishing the company as a leading statewide commercial interiors partner. This milestone also laid the groundwork for future investments, including the opening of the 32,000-square-foot Tampa headquarters in 2022.

As the company grew, so did its sense of purpose. In 2017, Workscapes made a pivotal cultural shift from a โ€œcustomer first at all costsโ€ mindset to a people-first philosophy grounded in clarity, accountability, and transparency. This focus strengthened a robust Corporate Social Responsibility program built on three pillars: WorkWell, WorkForce, and WorkGreen. From mentoring students at DeSoto Elementary to supporting a school-based food pantry that serves more than 300 families each week, community impact became a meaningful measure of success alongside business performance.

This people-centered approach has fueled resilience and long-term value. Since 2021, Workscapesโ€™ workforce has grown significantly as the company expanded its solutions and reach. Long-standing modular construction capabilities, established in 2007 through its DIRTT partnership, continued to evolve, and in 2021 the company launched a dedicated flooring division to better support complex, multi-scope environments. Today, healthcare represents approximately 40 percent of total revenue, with teams supporting mission-critical settings where precision, responsiveness, and reliability are essential. Investments in digital tools allow clients to visualize and evaluate future environments early in the process, enabling confident decision-making and stronger outcomes.

Recognition as a GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch reflects the strength of this multi-decade journey. For the Workscapes team, the honor represents a belief that meaningful scale and strong values can grow together. It underscores the companyโ€™s continued investment in facilities, expanded offerings, and the development of more than 170 employees across Florida, with strategic hubs in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Fort Myers.

As the next generation of leadership takes form, grounded in the same values that shaped the company from the beginning, Workscapes remains committed to long-term stewardship and partnership. With Elizabethโ€™s son Will now serving as Chief Revenue Officer, the company continues to champion thoughtful growth while supporting those beginning their own entrepreneurial paths.

Reflecting on the lessons learned along the way, Workscapes leadership offers this perspective:

โ€œBuild a culture where your people feel as valued as your best customer. When you invest in the growth of your team, they will take care of your clients in ways you never could alone.โ€
