Judging Process & Selection Criteria

The GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch program employs a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation process designed to identify second-stage companies with the greatest potential for high-impact growth. Each application is reviewed by a distinguished panel of experts to ensure that every Honoree represents the pinnacle of Floridaโ€™s entrepreneurial spirit.

The Two-Round Evaluation

Round 1: Preliminary Analysis & Eligibility
All submitted applications undergo an initial review to confirm eligibility based on core metrics (employee count and revenue). Judges assess the companyโ€™s foundational fit for the program, focusing on initial indicators of innovation, community involvement, and the transition from a startup to a scalable second-stage entity.

Round 2: Deep-Dive Evaluation (Finalists Only)
Companies that advance to the Finalist stage undergo an intensive review. At this stage, the essay questions are the primary focus, providing the judging panel with the narrative behind the numbers.

  • Due Diligence: A comprehensive review of the companyโ€™s operational stability and reported financials to verify the capacity for sustained growth.
  • Expert Panel Review: A select committee of economic development leaders, academic experts, and past FLCTW Honorees evaluates each Finalist. This panel looks for the “X-factor”โ€”the unique qualities that distinguish a Company to Watch from its peers.

Core Selection Criteria

Candidates are evaluated across a spectrum of quantitative and qualitative factors that demonstrate both past achievement and future promise:

  • Demonstrated Performance: We look for a consistent trajectory of growth in both human capital and annual revenue. While we recognize that market shifts occur, the application must clearly articulate how the company has navigated challenges to maintain its momentum.
  • Future Growth Velocity: Beyond historical data, judges prioritize companies with clear projections for expansion in 2026 and beyond. We evaluate the specific drivers of this growth, as outlined in the Sustainable Competitive Advantage section of the application.
  • Institutional Strength: A GrowFL Company to Watch is more than just a profitable business. We value companies that demonstrate:
    • Entrepreneurial Leadership: Exceptional vision and strategic execution from the executive team.
    • Corporate Citizenship: A documented commitment to philanthropy and community impact.
    • Internal Culture: A track record of being an outstanding employer that fosters innovation at every level.

Honoree Commitment: By submitting an application, companies agree that, if selected, they will adhere to the official terms of the award. This includes a commitment to have a representative attend the Awards Gala on February 25, 2027, in Orlando, Florida, to be recognized and celebrated among their peers.
